Little Boy Status

Well, the hearing on Thursday did not go well and the grandmother called me, distraught about it. She even went so far as to say that we shouldn't even take an interest in Taylor. This was not the first time she had said that this week. I told here we would keep him if she needed us to on Saturdays (she works 1/2 day) and if she needed a break.

She vented a lot about the trial and the physical threats her daughter had made during recess. This was really discouraging to Ken, but I think I have insulated myself a bit from it because he is not even eligible for adoption right now. Originally we were supposed to spend Saturday with Taylor and she told me that she had forgotten she was taking time off and going to her brother's house. No Taylor.

Saturday afternoon we received a call from her asking if we wanted to spend time with Taylor. Apparently she was really tired after spending 2 1/2 days straight with him. She's not in great health and he is busy. I explained to her we were on the way to get the babysitter, but could take him tomorrow. We made arrangements to pick him up before Sunday school.

Taylor was excited when we picked him up. It was nice because he knew where we were going and he felt comfortable there. We went to McDonald's for lunch and let the boys play for quite a while. They had fun. It's amazing how quickly a small child will get bold and empowered with a little encouragement from an older child.

After that it was home to nap. Taylor slept for a little over an hour. When he woke up we walked out back to the park and fed the ducks (Collin went to a friend's house). It's always fun to see kids interested in animals. Their demeanor really changes. After that we visited a couple of the little playgrounds.

Once back home we went out on the front porch and sat in the shade to blow bubbles. Collin was back for that and it was just nice. I can't think of any word to describe it other than nice.

We took Taylor back with us to evening service and that was a bit of a challenge. He was tired and ready to play. The Easter egg hunt meeting took forever!! We finally took him home around 8.

We talked with the grandmother some more. Neither one of us got warm fuzzies about any of it. That's okay though. We'll do what we can to help until our life changes. We go to the foster/adopt parent meeting tonight!!
